Abstract :

Abstract This study aims to know the present reality of Al-Dhahrieh old town by documenting its historical monuments. It also aims to understand and diagnose the Old Town’s problems and difficulties, in order to identify policies to safeguard its historical heritage. The theoretical framework of the study stated the followed planning policies. The historical importance and development of Al Dhahrieh were studied, beside its urban, population and economy, in general and those of the Old Town in particular. Then, suggestions and solutions were prepared to rehabilitate the old town. This included in the last section of the study under the title of Results and Recommendations. The methodology followed in the study included polices used in planning, upgrading the historical places. Similar case studies were analysed. The study recommends that the Municipality of Al Dhahrieh should take the responsibility of rehabilitation of the old town, through securing the needed sources and establish a conservation committee to conduct this mission.
