Abstract :

This study discussed the relationships between the Islamic Andalusia with Christian Spain during the Umayyad Emirate. It contains four chapters : Chapter One discusses the conditions of Islamic Andalusia that affected its relationships with Christian Spain. It includes the external threats represented by the failing Charlemagne campaign at saragossa in 161 Hijri ( 778 AD ) , the Abbasid attemt to recapture Andalusia through their support of opponent movements, and finally the Norman attacks at the Andalusian coasts and the devastation they left behind them. But the biggest danger came from within Islamic Andalusia itself represented by the conflict among some of the princes and their alliances with the enemy. In addition, the social classes of the Andalusian society lacked harmony, which increased the number of rebels who took part in tribal and factional conflicts. They also sought alliance with the Christians of the north against the government of Cordoba. Another factor that made up a major abstacle for the government of Cordoba is the difficulties of the geographical features that increased the duration of some rebellions that sometimes lasted for many long years such as the rebellion of Omar Ben Hafson. Chapter Two discusses the origin and development of the Christian Kingdoms during the Emirate age. The first Christian assembly against Muslims started at the Asturia region ( 98 Hijri / 716 AD ). By this movement, the Reconquest started in slow but firm steps. In the year 294 Hijri / 910 AD, the capital was moved to leon and this Kingdom was henceforth known as the Kingdom of leon. The second Christian assembly was known as the Kingdom of Nabra whose base was the fortified Pambelona, which was inhabited by a strong population known as the Bushkan. This Kingdom became independent towards the end of the second Hijri century, the eighth century AD. The third Christian assembly was the Catalonia Emirate whose bese was Barcelona which was established after the fall of Barcelona in 185 Hijri, 801 AD. This Emirate was ruled by a number of Lords who were subordinates of the French kings. However, this subordination to the French kings did not last long; Catalonia became independent during the third Hijri century/ the ninth century AD. After studying the north Spanish Christian assembly centers, it was necessary to identify the internal conditions there and to what extent they contributed to strengthening the Reconquest movement. Despite the fact that the conditions of Christian Spain were not much better than the conditions of its neighbor due to the tyranny of its kings, noblemen, and clergymen in addition to the weakness of the Spanish economy. Nevertheless, it was always able to achieve new gains at the expense of Islamic Andalusia, not because of its self-power and military supremacy as much as the weak internal Islamic front. The fourth chapter discusses the civilization relatinship beween Islamic Andalusia and Christian Spain during the Emirate age. Despite the continuous wars between the two sides, they had wide civiliztion relationships of which the Christians of north Spain made the best. However, although they were enchanted by this great civilization, they did notforget prime objective- brining Spain back to Christianity.

Abstract

All people have the right to own a suitable houses, this subject becomes not a personal issue or local community advertence, but an international legislations subject, therefore it is very important to research in design criterions for low income housing to reach a conformance between building cost and finance competence for this group of people and because of the house is an essential need for human life, these subjects were studied in the first chapter of this thesis in additional to other topics like population studies, housing institutions, polices and strategies to solve housing problems in Palestine, housing funded institutions, their polices and the shortage in funded resources.

The success of the housing projects depends on the understanding of the requirements of the inhabitants, their social, economical backgrounds and their materialistic potentials. Therefore the second chapter of this thesis studied the housing restrictions (human, economical, environmental) to be an entrance to study the different existing types of low-income housing in urban regions and reach for responding difficulties and the role of the different directions in saving houses.

Abstract :

This research deals by means of study and analysis the grammatical efforts of one of the most famous grammarians of Alkufa school.

He took over his teacher Alkissaei to complete the formation of this school. This grammarian is called Abu Zakariya Yahya Ben Ziyad Al Ferra`a Al Daylami.

Previous researches and thesis concentrated very much on the bright side, of the lives of the ancient, whereas the less famous aspect, whose importance shrank by the great fame of the bright side, was neglected. But this study can be considered as a good step in the study of the ancients. The study of Al Farra`s grammatical effort was a good beginning for the future studies for some Arab figures in phonology, semantics, syntax and style.

To acomplish this aim I have tried to cover the subject from all its sides. So I collected all the material that is related to Al Farr`a in both ancient and modern books - I have analysed this material, divided it and put it in index. Some times I compared Al Farra`s opinions with others. In the introduction of this study I dealt with the cause and objective of the study, its importance, his previous studies and the methodology. In the preface I dealt with the life of Al Farr`a, his birth and background, the resources of his knowledge and other scientists, caliphates, political parties and readings. I talked about his students, his books, the opinion of other scientists and finally his death .

The first chapter bears the title "The Resource of Al Ferra`s Morphology". I have found that these resources include the Glorious Quran and its reading. The prophet`s teaching, Arab saying and poetry. The second chapter is "Morphology'. Here, I studied Morphology on which Al Farra" opposed the Basra school.

In chapter three. I handeld his morphological efforts which include: the definition of morphology, parts of speech, verbs, gerunds, derevation, word coin, nouns and other phono- morphological cases.

The ancient headed by Al Farra` didn’t differentiate between phonology and morphology, so phonology was studied under mor phology.

By this research I intended to make it an easy reference that includes the mor pholoyical efforts of Al Ferra` so that other scholars can benefit from, especiallay the beginners.

It includes some worke reading and studying morphological cases.

Al Farra` was the brightest and the most Kufa mor phologist because all the morphological issues and subject were included under the topic "Morphology'.

Abstract :

This study sought to discover the musical ability of seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth graders in public schools in Nablus Governorate. To this end, the study raised the following questions: 1. Does the musical ability of students differ due to sex, place of living, birth order in the family, number of family members, educational level and parents' education? 2. Does the students' ability to distinguish sounds and their volume, beat remembering, musical timing, quality of sound and rhythm remembering differ due to the independent variables of sex, class, place of living, birth order in the family, size of family and parents' education? To answer the questions and test the hypotheses of the study, the researcher administered a test to a randomly chosen sample of 2,143 students of both sexes in the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth grades in Nablus Governorate public school. They were distributed among 62 sections in 12 different schools: 6 for males and six for females. To test the reliability of the instrument, the researcher used internal consistency-Cronbach's Alpha coefficient reliability. It was 0.9348. For data analysis, the researcher used One-Way Analysis of Variance, Three-Way Analysis of Variance and Multi-Way Analysis of Variance of dependent variables according to Holting's method of hypothesis testing. Study findings: 1. It was found that there were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 among the averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which were due to sex. The differences were in favor of females. 2. There were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 among averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which might be attributed to place of living. The differences were found to be in favor of the city. 3. There were also statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 among averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which might be due to family size. The differences were in favor of small-size families, save the measurement to distinguish sounds and quality of sounds. 4. No statistically significant differences were found at  = 0.05 among averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which might be due to birth order in family. 5. There were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 among averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which might be attributed to parents’ education. The differences were in favor of those who had a higher level of education. 6. There were no statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 among the averages of students' grades in the general musical ability test which might be due to interaction between the two sexes, birth order in the family, and father's education. 7. There were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 which might be due to mother's education. 8. There were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 which might be due to family size. 9. There were statistically significant differences at  = 0.05 which might be attributed to interaction between mother's and father's education as well as family size. 10. Abstract :

The goal of this study is to be acquainted with the value structure of students at the Palestinian universities. This study also tried to investigate the effect of the students’ gender, college, home residence, educational level, parents’ educational level, income, grade point average (GPA), and travel abroad on the value structure of the student.

A random sample consisting of 700 students was selected from several Palestinian universities: An-Najah National University, Bier-Zeit University and Arabs American University. The instrument used during this study was Rokeach value. The collected data was analyzed by computer program (SPSS) and the following results were obtained:Palestinian students gave importance to the terminal values such as religiousness, family security, and self-esteem, and to instrumental values such as ambitious, open minded and honesty. On the other hand, they showed less importance to the terminal values such as, social recognition, beautiful world, happiness and interest, And to instrumental values such as reliable, obedient, bless and happiness.

1. There is no significant mean difference between the value structure and the demographic of (gender, college, home residence, income, grade point average, student’s educational level, parents’ educational level, and travels abroad.

In the scope of the results of this study, we can classify the terminal and the instrumental values regarding to the preference of Palestinian university students into two major categories:

a) Strongly preferred values

b) Weakly preferred values

Based on the study findings the researcher recommended:

1. While supporting the terminal and the instrumental values of type (a) mentioned above one should strengthen type (b) until it approaches the preference level of type (a).

2. Some obligatory courses about values should be included in university programs.

3. In order to emphasize the importance of the different values, implant them in the souls of students, and to apply them in their daily lives, leaflets and booklets concerning the different educational values have to be published and distributed among school and university students either through voluntary activities or through regular studying programs.

4. A comparison research program dealing with the educational values in Arab countries on one side and the European countries on the other have to be established.

Future Studies:

For future work, I recommend to make a preference value study dealing with samples of higher educational level. Such samples can be picked-up from the university employees, engineers and medical doctors.

Abstract :

Type II diabetes has been described to have an epidemic-like spread all over the world with special emphasis on countries experiencing the transition to western lifestyle.

Diabetes Mellitus affects more than 14 million cases In the US. and is the leading cause of new blindness and kidney disease. Diabetes also causes nerve disease, heart disease, and stroke each year At least 19000 people die from diabetes and its complication.

People with higher than average risk Of type II diabetes are those who are over weight and people who are not physically active.

About 317 people over the age of 35 were selected from Nablus community to participate in this study. Study participants were examined for type of work, diet and the extent to which they are involved in physical activity. They were also examined for weight, height fasting blood sugar and blood pressure.

SPSS software was used to provide descriptive and cross-tabulation analysis of collected data, the also relationship between the risk factors to develop type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and one or more of lifestyle patterns was examined ..

Almost all results were consistent with the findings of international literature especially those related to the neighboring countries like Saudi Arabia.

Conclusions of our study confirms that:

· Diabetes Type II can be prevented as in all other studies about the subject

· There is a significant relation between lifestyle, diet, and occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes.

· Even though level of general education for study sample was good, knowledge about the disease was very low

· Males demonstrated to be more susceptible for type 2 diabetes than females of the same age group in the sample study.

Abstract :

The current study was aimed at carrying out a comprehensive population- based epidemiological study of candidiasis among women and school children in the city of Nablus. The study investigated the susceptibility of recovered yeast isolates to selected drugs and certain plant extracts and the cytotoxic effects of certain plant extracts on selected human cell lines. The study was conducted during the period of January- May 2002. It involved 119 women, attending a gynecologist private clinic, and 463 school children aged 15-18 years (251 males and 212 females). Of the 119 women complaining from vaginal discharge and suspected for yeast infection, 63 (52.9%) were yeast positive. Associated symptoms included itching (22.5%), dysparenia (8.9%), burning and dysurea (8.9%), urinary tract infection (7.9%), bad odor (7.9%) and other symptoms (17.5%). The highest rate of infection was observed among women aged (21-30); women residents in villages (61.9%) and in pregnant women (58.1%).

The infection rates of 36.3% and 19.8% were found among male and female school children, respectively. The most prevalent symptom among both males and females was interdigital (92.3% and 57.1%), respectively. Male refugee camp inhabitants showed the highest infection rates (85%), compared to city (66.2%) and village (40.0%) residents. Whereas female population showed the highest rate of infection among village residents (100%) compared to city (68.9%) and refugee camp (38.1%) inhabitants. Other mycotic infections showed the highest percentage of associated disorders (19.8%) among males, whereas eczema was the predominant associated disorder among females (9.5%). Other practices such as use of common facilities did not seem to indicate an association between such practice and infection in both males and females, while contact with domestic animals showed a significant association with infection in both males (58.2%) and females (80.9%). Feet drying practice showed a convenient positive association with infection especially among females who reported not to dry their feet (64.3%), whereas it was contradictory in males who claimed to dry their feet but showed a positive yeast infection (57.1%).

With respect to anticandidal activity of plant extracts, all tested plants showed pronounced activity to various degrees. Allium sativum (Garlic) showed the highest effect (100%) followed by Pistacia lentiscus (3.8%), Salvia dominica (2.25%) and Petrosilinum sativum (2.25%) compared to reference antibiotics (Nystatin and Econazole).

Studies on the cytotoxic effects of plant extracts (Anagalis arvensis, Anthemis tictoria L. and Parieteria diffusa) against human cell lines showed that all extracts were cytotoxic at ≥ 500 μg against HT29 human cell line, more pronounced effects were observed for Parieteria diffusa and Anagalis arvensis, respectively. Anthemis tinctoria L. showed the most pronounced effect against human cell line L929, however, extracts of Anagalis arvensis and Parieteria diffusa showed effects at ≥ 500 μg. All three extracts showed cytotoxic effects at ≥ 5000 μg against cell line Hep G2, however, Anagalis arvensis showed the same effect at ≥ 500 μg. Anthemis tinctoria L. showed a pronounced cytotoxic effect at ≥ 5000 μg against human pulp fibroblasts, however, Anagalis arvensis and Parieteria diffusa showed reduced effects using the same concentration compared to their effects at 500 μg.

Abstract :

Abstract

The study attempts to shed some light on the Palestinian folkloric poetry which is currently being considered as one of the pillars of the Palestinian resistance. It aims at deepening the nation's roots in the homeland of our ancestors and reemphasizing our link with national heritage which our enemies try their best to obliterate and distort. In fact, the study touches a topic of deep concern to the Palestinian people. This concern has always been felt by the poet Muhareb Theeb who has used his tongue and the string of his rababah to chant purely Palestinian tunes in the homeland, exile and Diaspora. Therefore, writing down this verbal heritage is a national responsibility that must be taken by individuals, groups and establishments.

The present study is introduced to fill in a gap and root one of the adobes of our folkloric heritage. Despite his popularity and productivity, Muhareb Theeb's works have not yet been studied or even documented by any researcher.

Basically, the study attempts to highlight Muhareb Theeb's role in promoting the Palestinian folkloric literature through answering the following questions:

· What's Muhareb Theeb's rank? What is his position?

· To what extent is his rank consistent with his position?

Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to search for the effect of imaginative learning as a teaching method on assessment in Mathematics, keeping mathematical information, recognizing genre’s effect, parents’ educational level, and type of school in assessment and retention of mathematical information.

The study tries to answer the following questions:

1. Are there any statistical differences within the concept (0.05 ≥a) in ninth grade students’ assessment in Mathematics due to the traditional imaginative method?

2. Are there any statistical methods within the concept (0.05≥a) in ninth grade students’ assessment in Mathematics due to genre variable?

3. Are there any statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) in ninth grade students’ assessment in Mathematics due to parents’ education level?

4. Are there any statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) in ninth grade students’ assessment in Mathematics due to school environment, i.e. males, females, coeducation?

5. Are there any statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) in the current and delayed assessment of ninth grade students’ assessment in Mathematics?

Data were analyzed by using multiple variable analysis and pairs testing to examine the study’s hypotheses. The results were as follows:

1. There are statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) between the two pairs average marks: trial (imaginative) and controlled (traditional) in the assessment test in favor of the trial group (imaginative).

2. There are statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) between average marks of the case study in assessment test in regard with school environment variable (males, females, coeducation). This hypotheses has the following results:

· There are statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) among the average marks of the case study in the assessment test between male schools which have an average of (66.1) and coeducational schools which have the average (52.2), all in favor of male schools.

· There are statistical differences within the concept (0.05≥a) among the average marks of the case study in the assessment test between female schools which have an average of (62.5) and coeducational schools which have the average (52.2), all in favor of female schools.
